Sources from Apple Computer and Sony Corportion say a battle between Apple's Dogcow "Clarus" and Sony's robotic dog Aibo is currently being planned.
"Apple
has really been looking for something to compete with Sony's Aibo,"
said the Apple source. "A lot of research and development has gone
into trying to make an iMac-looking robotic pet of some sort. We didn't
realize that we already had a lean, mean, fighting machine that could
take on Aibo - Clarus the Dogcow."
The Sony source spoke only Japanese, but we think he said, "A challenge to Aibo would be greatly exciting. Aibo makes great hamburger. Pearl Harbor shall come again to existance! The fish is delicious."
Clarus
has some definate advantages over Aibo. Clarus has the ability to grow
and shrink in size. The largest documented size Clarus has been seen as
is over eight feet tall, grazing on the grass of Apple's campus in Cupertino.
She does get rather "blocky" at this large size, however, since
she is a bitmap at heart. We're not talking Quartz here.
The fact that Clarus is two dimensional could also be an advantage when fighting Aibo. Clarus becomes invisible when facing you head on. This is the perfect disguise before she attacks and eats your spleen.
A date for the match has not yet been set, but it is believed to occur sometime before the end of the third quarter.
